Grape Motif Mother-of-Pearl Earrings

These mother-of-pearl earrings were inspired by the "Inkstone with Grape Motif" held by the National Museum of Korea. The shape of the grapevines carved onto the Joseon Dynasty inkstone is enclosed within a circular silver frame, with mother-of-pearl placed inside to represent the water pooled in the inkstone.

The grape motif on the inkstone symbolizes abundance and fertility, with the grapevines naturally dividing the inkstone's ink-well and water pool. We have taken the lines of the grapevine and the appearance of the water in the inkstone from this structure and reconfigured them into a small piece of jewelry.

Mother-of-pearl is set within a circular silver frame, adorned with a simplified grapevine pattern along the edges. The gentle glow of the mother-of-pearl meets the surface of the silver, creating a slightly different look depending on the angle. When worn with the matching ring, the circular shape, grape motif, and colors of the mother-of-pearl connect to create a unified set.
